Jean Turner Scholarship Fund

This scholarship fund was created in loving memory of Mrs. Jean Turner and her heart for the students at Bridgemark. Mrs. Turner served at Bridgemark for six years and was a gift to each student she taught. She encouraged them to strive for excellence and helped them to understand the beauty of how they were created.  After a brief illness, Mrs. Turner passed away on January 3, 2021 and we miss her immensely.

All of the money donated to this fund will go directly towards the education of Bridgemark students. Jean Turner began her studies in Special Education at Mississippi State University due to her empathy for students who face learning challenges and the difficulties those students face with teaching methods that do not reach their mode of learning. MSU’s program was structured around the learning differences of the individual student. She realized through this curriculum that appropriate student instruction should be based on individual learning styles. This awareness led to a Masters in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on Testing and Measurement.

After her studies, Mrs. Turner was employed by MSU in the Office of Institutional Research. During this time, the University initiated one of the first developmental studies program to assist and remediate students applying for admission that required support for academic success. In her position with MSU, she tested and placed incoming Freshmen in math and reading programs. This experience was the underpinning for her love of math and reading support today.

Over the years, Mrs. Turner has taught at the elementary and secondary levels and has discovered success utilizing the students’ appropriate channels of learning. With the Bridgemark administration, teaching staff, and support staff, Mrs. Turner worked tirelessly to develop the strengths of our students and enhance their learning experience. Mrs. Turner served as the Bridgemark art teacher, math and reading specialist, and administered yearly individual academic testing.
